Happy New Year

Happy New Year to you all…

Lets pray that this coming year would bring you what you have been praying for.

I will try in the coming year to cover and post more…I am not a jounalist or writer this post is done to keep the reader informed of what is happening in my life…

I love you all and my wish for this coming year for this blog is that people would participate more with commenting.

Well have a happy one and PLEASE BE SAFE….NO DRINKING AND DRIVING….PLEASE…

Blessings to you and yours.

A fellow carver on WCI carves miniature Wolfs charms and they are awesome.  I am not one to copy a fellow carver but I was aching to try my hand at miniature animal carving.

While driving to work one day I noticed a wooden baby crib in the dumpster of a grocery store…you read right “grocery store”  so I stopped and ask the owner if I could take it…the answer was an overwelming YES…he says he gets all kind of junk from people in his dumpster.  I only took the sides they are made of 28 pieces of 1/2 X 1 in. maple….A lots of wood to make my little Bears…

Black and Polar Bears

They are fun to make, I know I need to improve but those are the very first miniature carvings ever.

If you have any suggestion of animals you would like to see let me know.

Here’s a few pictures that will show you a part of my work.

As you all know in Québec we have a lots of snowfall and from time to time we have to unload roofs from snow.

Gettin there

Gettin there

Yep…we have to get up there..see the overhang, baucoup snow.

The work begins

The work begins

All that snow has to go, it takes about 30 minutes to unload the roof and 40 to 45 minutes to do the work on the ground.

All clean

All clean

No more snow on the ground, I would say there was about 2 tons of the white stuff up on the roof, the main entry door did not lock anymore, there was reason for concern.

Cleared roof

Another satisfied customer.

I will unload this roof 3 more time this winter…There’s a lots of snow here in Québec.

This is a part of my work in the winter…the other part is less glamorous…walking behind a snowblower to clean sidewalk and shovelling snow off balcony…So the snow in my book is called WHITE GOLD.

Till next time…no matter where you are….get outside and enjoy the weather you have in your neck of the woods…cause it can be worst….

It’s been a while since I posted a WIP.  The snow kept me away from my bench and YES there is a lots of snow here.  Get you a cup of Java and scroll down this Snake Cane project with me.

My inspiration for snake carving came from David N. Sthely.  You can visit David website by clicking on the link bellow.

This peace of wood (Maple) was found in a subdivision close to home where they were clear cutting the land to subdivise into small lots.

The usual technique would be to turn the branch where the tail of the snake rest into a snake.  I decided to have the snake rest on the branch instead.

If you take a close look you will see a little indention just above the snake head,  this is a thumb rest.

Indention above the head.

Indention above the head.

The picture above shows a little turtle crawling up the trunk.  I was told there is a Native legend about the snake and the turtle,  I was not aware of it before but I will sure Google it to find out and if I do I will post it on here.

Now keep in mind that this is a work in project,  I am almost done with it just a few touch around the turtle a little sanding at Voila ready to get onto another project.

Getting a little sun

Getting a little sun

This cane is off Maple and it is 34in. long, very solid and the branch is not in the way. (if you are right handed)  When done it will have 3 coats of clear polyurethane on the whole cane including the snake and the turtle.

The snake and the turtle both have 2 coats of Minwax walnut stain.

Well Folks hope you enjoyed this post, till next time…Be safe in this the Merry season…

Please leave us your coments…

The Snowy Owls migrate from the north to the south at this time of the year and it makes for real interesting sighting.  I wonder if any of you ever carved a Snowy Owl I am going to give it a try.

The wood I am going to use is birch….yep firewood.  I posted a picture as a model so, if you do carve an Owl please let us know.(Pict. taken from the net)

Here they are

Here they are

Cyberspace is a cruel place where little munchers rule.

There was a zillion of them that entered a little crack and caused havoc,  Thank God for my wife, after getting the news that it was fixed on the server side began the task of re-establishing the blogs (mine and hers) plus her website.

Simply put the server crashed and the backup followed. So we were in the dumpster without a garbage bag.

Root

Root

This is a project I was working on for a while and here it is.  This root without knowing and it was brought to my attention by a friend (Ricky from Milton FL) looks like a friend of ours called Melvin…. I hope you enjoy it.

To all our Southern friends this is the time of the year where family and friends get together and enjoy each others presence, a time to stop and appreciate whats around you…Well I am THANKFULL for you all.

In times of economic hardship you join to the hip, tighten your belt and dive head first to be able to get to the other side where the sun will be shinning again.  I am THANKFULL for you all.

A nation at the dawn of a new era..I am THANKFUL for you all.

To all that read these few words be American or Canadian….I am THANKFULL for you all.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU.

What an Owl...Where's the Turkey..lol

What an Owl...Where

Yeap, was time to change the team,  Do you like the snow?  If you are from the South…Like my best buddy it does not reflect your everyday,  unfortunatly up here we will have to put up with the white stuff for the next 5 months.  Winds up to 60 mph. today and thank God not as much snow as predicted just a few inches…and tomorrow RAIN….and temp in the mid 30’s….What a bummer.

How’s your little corner of the world?  This is a good time to carve, I wil show a couple of pics. soon.

I am working on a few project for the weekend show, hope to have them done in time….

Have fun, go outside and play,  who knows it might be the last day you have….till tomorrow….Be good.
